About us
Back in 2021, I closed the doors on my London based start-up and by chance fell into a role with a small but rapidly growing supported living service in Berkshire. Initially a stop-gap, I quickly found working with young care leavers exciting, enjoyable and rewarding.
We saw huge transformation in the young people placed with us. However, upon turning 18, many of those young people would move into their own accommodation unsupported. I continued to receive calls and messages from young people for assistance, evidence of the need for a service to support the transition from semi-independent, to entirely independent living.
Back in 2021, I closed the doors on my London based food-tech startup and by chance fell into a role with a small but rapidly growing semi-independent living service in Berkshire. Initially a stop-gap, I quickly found working with young people in care exciting, enjoyable and rewarding.
As an outcomes-focussed service, we saw huge transformation in the young people in our care. However, upon turning 18, many of those young people would move into their own accommodation, and be left relatively unsupported.
Steady Steps was born to support care experienced young people aged 18-24 with their transition to adulthood through regular, structured and outcomes-focussed keywork sessions. These take place out in the community or at our offices in Berkshire and are tailored to each individual young person’s needs. Social Worker
Local Authority in Berkshire
I have had the privilege of working alongside Vikesh for a number of years. When I knew I was moving a young person to a new placement I would ensure Vikesh was available to support the move as his calm demeanour, mixed with his natural ability to build a rapport with young people and to put them at ease meant that a tough and unsettling step in a young persons life was made easier and less daunting. Vikesh treats young people with respect, dignity and acceptance. He is supportive, encourages them to excel and push past their potential and empowers young people which is reflected in the continuous growth in young people's self esteem and confidence when they work with him

Care Leaver in Berkshire
Vikesh was my support worker when I was under an care company that he worked for. When I was demotivated and unwilling to complete tasks, he encouraged me. When I did well at things, he acted as though my success was also his success. He was actively supporting my future even when I was unaware of it and was consistently coming up with solutions and strategies to better myself as a person. When it comes to Vikesh, not only is he extremely efficient but he inspires the young people he works with to improve themselves, with not only academics but independence. I have never met a support worker as enthusiastic to help the youth as Vikesh and would highly recommend him

Working alongside Vikesh for the past few years has been a pleasure. His calm approach and consistency has had a positive impact on the young people he has worked with yielding positive outcomes.
Vikesh has a way of making every young person feel valued and important. It’s been a refreshing experience working alongside Vikesh as he has genuine empathy and care for the young people he works with.Assistant Headteacher
Sixth Form College in Berkshire
Vikesh is a remarkable advocate for the young people he supports, and I really appreciated the opportunity to work with him. Vikesh developed a strong relationship not only with the young person, but also the network around them, ensuring the young person's voice was heard and best interests championed. Vikesh was largely responsible for the young person's improved attendance, attainment and commitment to their education. Vikesh is pragmatic when exploring barriers as well as solutions, and I really welcomed his dynamic approach to his role. Vikesh was always ready to support the school to ensure the young person's needs were met educationally, but also worked relentlessly to prioritise: careers and destination planning, mental & emotional wellbeing as well as personal development
